Last month, Building Hope in the City has launched its new ministry for mentoring refugee youth ages 16-24, called Youth Adult Refugee Mentoring (YARM).
Training has now been scheduled for this program on the following dates:
- Thursday, April 10 – 6:00 and/or 7:00 pm
- Monday, April 28 – 6:00 and/or 7:00 pm
- Tuesday, April 29 – 6:00 and/or 7:00 pm
Training will be conducted in two one-hour sessions:
- 6:00 pm – Refugee 101 provides background information on refugees. This training is for volunteers who have never mentored or been through BHITC’s Refugee Mentor Training. Volunteers who attend this training need to also stay for the YARM Training below.
- 7:00 pm – YARM Training is both for volunteers who have attended previous Refugee Mentor Training and new volunteers who attended the 6:00 pm Refugee 101 session. Volunteers who have already taken a Refugee Mentor Training do not need to participate at 6:00 pm.
Sign up here to attend and become a Job Coach! The program aims to help teen and young adult refugees begin exploring career paths and job training programs. As a result, these budding adults will find assistance in understanding the American approach to work and be better able to help provide for their families.
We are still seeking volunteers for this highly-relational ministry, which includes working with a small team of refugee youth to find job shadowing opportunities, internships and seasonal employment. Volunteers will share their own work and life experiences to help guide refugee young adults toward futures for themselves in the workforce. Necessary training and materials will be provided to volunteers.
